A REPORT ON AN EDUCATIONAL TOUR TO
KOFI ANNAN INTERNATIONAL PEACEKEEPING TRAINING CENTRE( KAIPTC) ON THE 24TH
OCTOBER, 2012
On the 24th
October 2012 which was Wednesday, the Ghana United Nations Students And Youth
Association, Presec-La went on an educational tour to Kofi Annan International
Peace Keeping Training Centre At Teshie – Accra.
DEPARTURE FROM SCHOOL.
We left the
school premises at 9:20 am with the school bus accompanied by Sir Peter ( A new
geography teacher of the school) who stood on behalf of the Patron, Mr. Agalic Clement.
As we were going the Vice President of the Club, Miss Gloria Neequaye prayed
for our departure.
ARRIVAL.
We got there
9:44am and we were warmly welcomed by the receptionist. Later, the director of communications
Miss Aisha Nkrumah officially welcomed us. We
were then sent to the Schroder hall for lectures on the central institutions
and processes governing the Centre. Before lectures went on, we were refreshed
with Safina bottle water which really tells that we were in the comfort of home.
LECTURES BEGINS
Miss Aisha:
Who can tell us a little about Kofi Annan International Peace Keeping Centre?
Allotey Celestina: The Peace Keeping Centre helps to
bring peace in African countries.
Fahd Mohammed:
Kofi Annan built up the center in the ideas to train security personnel’s
in the field of peace keeping.
Akuteye
Divine :
Kofi Annan international peace keeping centre is a centre responsible for the
training of intellectuals to be equipped with knowledge in peace keeping to
help solve pertinent peace keeping issues in ECOWAS Countries
Miss Aisha: okay, you have all done extremely
well because we all have an idea about the centre but let me also with this “Kofi
Annan International Peace Keeping Centre is all about an ECOWAS research and training centre of excellence’.
THE VISION OF KAIPTC
Our Vision
is to be an internationally preferred Centre of Excellence for research into
and training for conflict prevention, management and resolution, research and
innovative thinking in integrated Peace Support Operations and sustainable
delivery of enhanced regional capacity building for Peace Support Operations.
THE MISSION OF KAIPTC
Our Mission
is to develop and deliver internationally recognized and professional training
courses and related programmes to equip personnel with selected skills and
competencies required to meet Africa’s present and future complex peace and
security challenges.
After the
discussions Miss Aisha paved way for some questions to be asked. These
questions include:
Tulasi Victor: do we pay an amount of money as
fees for the training?
Miss Aisha; No, it is freely sponsored by the United
Nations and other sponsored partners.
Kwarko Mary: can you offer the training courses without being in a
security agency.
Miss Aisha:
No, unless you are already in military, police and other security agencies
because after training the centre now is interested in what you do with the knowledge
you have acquired.
Neequaye Gloria: Immediate after SHS can I come here
to pursue some courses.
Miss Aisha: As I said, the only criteria for
doing courses are being in the security services.
Akuteye Divine: After the training courses, is it
certificate or diploma or degree that is received?
Miss Aisha: we award certificate upon completion
of courses but for some few weeks now, we run master degree programmes here,
CONCLUSION
After lectures we at exactly 11;30 am we were then sent around
to have a look at their facilities which include Conference Rooms ,Auditorium
,Multi-Purpose Training Facility, Syndicate Rooms, Restaurant
,Accommodation ,Gym ,Multi-Purpose Sports Facility. We were then taken to the
dining hall and there we were really refreshed with drinks and snacks whiles we
relax in our chairs enjoying it.
After the dining, Miss Aisha finally brought our educational
tour to a close, The President of the Club, Divine Akuteye stood on behalf of
the Headmistress, Dr. Shine Ofori (Mrs.) ,the patron Mr. Clement Agalic and the entire membership and executives and gave
thanks to the centre for giving us such a
fruitful educational tour.
DEPARTURE FROM CENTRE TO SCHOOL.
At 1:25pm,
the school bus came in and we left the premises
of the centre to the school. We got back safely and Divine Akuteye Gave thanks
to the Almighty God for such a fruitful tour and safe journey.
After
returning to the school the General
Executives gave sincere thanks to the Headmistress for granting us the
permission to go on the tour.
